CBP Modules Backup Power for Harsh and Remote Environments Tri-M CBP Modules are maintenance free, high cycling backup power systems designed for embedded applications that may encounter extreme temperatures or require numerous charge cycles. Many of these applications are found in remote locations where access to the systems is expensive or challenging (think undersea or remote geographies). CBP Modules are based on a PC/104 form factor and use electric double-layer capacitors (EDLC) or ultra-capacitors rather than conventional batteries. Ultra-capacitors have a high power density compared to conventional electrolytic capacitors so they can charge very quickly and are able to be recharged thousands of times. This is beneficial for applications that have either a large number of battery discharge cycles or where a «maintenance free» solution is required such as remote terminals or mobile data collectors. When mated with a Tri-M power solution (HESC or HPSC), the complete system will provide proven, battery free, long-life uninterruptible power for embedded applications. The CBP Modules are offered in Farad capacities of 10, 23, 25, 58, 250, and 500 providing estimated backup power run-times of 45 seconds to 45 minutes based on a twenty watt load.
BAT-NiMh45
BAT-NiMh45 4.5Ah NiMh Backup Module The BAT-NiMh45 creates a UPS system by plugging directly into the bottom of the HESC (including the V5SC-SER & HPSC) Vehicle Power Supplies. Each BAT-NiMh45 includes seven 4.5Ahr «A» size batteries for a nominal backup voltage of 8.4 volts. The BAT-NiMh45 can therefore supply a total of 37.8 watt-hrs of backup power and supply backup power for up to sixty minutes for a 37.8 watt load. The BAT-NiMh45 includes Mosfet transistors for preventing deep discharge occurrences during extended power outages. The Mosfet transistors electrically isolate the BAT-NiMh45 from the HESC whenever the BE output of the HESC is de-asserted (pulled to 5V). When ordered with the Real Time Clock option, the BAT-NiMh45-RTC can «awaken» from Sleep Mode at a programmed start-up time. A momentary «dry» contact on CN3 can also override the Sleep Mode and awaken the BAT-NiMh45-RTC. Tri-M Power supplies supporting the HESC-UPS18 firmware can program and read the RTC on the BAT-NiMh45-RTC. Tri-M Power Supplies with HESC-UPS firmware can use the BAT-NiMh45 for a UPS system, but without RTC support. Refer to section «Configuration and Installation» for listing of compatible power supplies and firmware support. The BAT-NiMh45 has both a thermal fuse and a current fuse for protection against overcharging, and shorts on the battery output. A digital I2C temperature sensor provides temperature feedback for charge termination, which can be read by the HESC.
TPS1000
TPS1000 Ultra High-Effieciency Power Supply The TPS1000 is an ultra high efficiency dual programmable output DC-DC PC/104 power converter. Three stage input protection with the on-board PowerOS ensures the system is safeguarded against spikes and transients. An extended operating temperature range and rugged design allows the TPS1000 to be reliably used in extremely harsh environments. Three full colour RGB LEDs provide a visual at-a-glance indication of input, output and TPS1000 operation.
V12SC-SER(-UPS)
V12SC-SER(-UPS) PC/104 UPS and Universal Charger with Solar Panel Support The V12SC-SER when integrated with a backup power source is a rugged uninterruptable power system (UPS) supplying up to 12V @ 5A and 5V @ 1A for use in remote and hostile environments. The V12SC-SER can be powered from a solar panel or from a vehicle power source. The input power protection is designed to MIL-STD-1275 requirements and can handle transients and load dumps found on heavy vehicles such as large mining trucks. The PC/104 footprint is easily integrated with other modules such as CPU, communication and I/O modules . The universal charger can handle NiCd, NiMh, SLA, Li-Ion, ultra capacitors and SMBus backup power sources. The V12SC-SER-UPS includes on-board NiMh batteries providing 6.3 watt-hr of backup energy. The V12SC-SER has two RS-232 ports for data monitoring and control. One port has 2500Vrms isolation and includes 5V @ 200mA making it ideal for remote sensors for sunlight intensity and solar panel temperature. The second port includes 5V @ 1A of power for devices such as a low power CPU. The 5V power on the serial ports are independently switchable to the 12V output. Three full color RGB LED indicators on the V12SC-SER provide operational status and an additional three off board RGB LED indicators can be used for remote status indication. The LEDs can be remotely controlled over the RS232 ports permitting indication of other functions. Advantages Solar panel input compatible. HDTS1275-DB Compact transient surge stopper The HDTS1275-DB is a transient surge stopper that protects electronics from the high energy of transients and load dumps. The HDTS1275-DB also protects electronics when power is connected backwards. The DB9 style and size connector mounts into a standard DB9 panel opening permitting easy integration. The HDTS1275-DB is designed to MIL-STD-1275 requirements and MIL-STD-810 shock and vibration levels.

V5SC-SER-UPS PC/104 Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) The V5SC-SER-UPS is a smart 35 Watt DC to DC UPS with a 5VDC output. A microcontroller provides advanced power management, smart battery charging and an RS-232 communication command and monitoring port. The V5SC-SER-UPS is handles rugged environments, has a wide input range of 6-40V and is ideal for battery or unregulated input applications. The V5SC-SER (without on-board batteries) permit greater backup energy and/or the benefits of a different backup energy chemistry when mated with one of Tri-M’s backup power modules.
